Stanley Cup Finals - Game 3

Game three was an away game. Our boys, the Vancouver Canucks, flew over to Boston to beat down the Bruins.

The plan was to party at Mike's (cousin). Nothing crazy. Ordered a massive amount of pizzas. Shared the beers (although I didn't go with one today). And I found some Canucks cupcakes and cookies just for the spirit of it all.

I had read online that these cupcakes from Fratelli's (an Italian bakery on Commercial Drive) made yummy Canucks cupcakes. Stupid me... I was smart enough to find these online, but not smart enough to check store hours while I was researchin'. So, I drove myself down to Fratelli's only to find out they're closed on a Monday.

Now, with Canucks baked goods stuck in my head, I was determined to find the next place that had them. I remember while reading about Fratelli's, someone had mentioned Moore's Bakery in Kerrisdale. So, might as well make an afternoon trip out of it and took my mom out there for some casual afternoon tea. I ended up picking half a dozen of these cool eats at Moore's.

Just found out... there were way better looking (and probably better tasting) ones at BonBon's (also another Italian Bakery on Victoria Drive). Which is much closer to my place. Oh well. Hah.

The game was ... well. Ridiculously disappointing and ugly. We lost 8-1. Canucks' Rome mad a horrible hit on Horton which lead to a severe concussion for Horton and a four-game suspension for Rome. We all watched in disbelief after Bruin's second goal... then third... then fourth... five... sixth...

We still believe though! We can do it. Whatever happened out there tonight, please don't let it happen again.

GO CANUCKS GO.

TWO MORE TO GO!!!!

Maybe it's time to retire my old jersey. Not bringing much luck!

My First Day Of Summer

I love the feeling of cool water hosing or spraying on my feet in flipflops on a warm summer day.

I had just finished spending two hours washing my car inside and out. I chose the hottest time of the day to be out here. Not really by choice but by proscrasinating all morning. I loved the warmth. Finally, it felt like summer. The temperature was perfect. Any hotter, I think it may be too hot. Tried to go for a run after the car wash but didn't last very long. It was just much too hot by then (at 3pm). For me anyway.

You can still see my scars from my fall back in January.  You can also sorta see what I meant by veiny feet.

Look, I even caught a rainbow.

Watermelon

One of many reasons why I love this season. First watermelon of the year.

Stanley Cup Finals - Game 2

With half my friends in Kelowna for a wedding, a couple at the actual game, and few others at a party hosted by someone I don't know... I was left with the option to watch the game at home. Not a bad option. It's finally been sunny after a couple dreary rainy days, I got off work early, and it's a Saturday night... all good reasons to go out but...

It ain't totally bad watching the game with my dad. Him shouting at the TV "Moh-la! Moh-la!". (Meaning "no more no more" .... as in no more chances to win.). And my mom coming into the room every twenty minutes shouting, "Did we win yet?! Is the game over??".

Oh... Don Cherry.
Perhaps it was good I stayed home. I was more tired than I thought I was... and slept right through the second period. But, I woke up in time to see the tying goal and then the awesome OT winning goal!

WAY TO GO, BOYS!!

TWO MORE TO GO...

Wicked

A couple of days ago, a few of us went to watch the musical, Wicked. I've heard so many good things about this musical. I wanted to see it yet did not want to spend $100-$150 for a ticket. Not that I haven't spent that much in shows/musicals/concerts before. But right now, there are other things I want more on my shopping list. However, Kat managed to find us 50+% off tickets. Score!

I heard about its twist on The Wizard of Oz but I never really knew the whole story. And unlike other musicals like Phantom of the Opera, Lion King, and even Legally Blonde, I didn't know too many songs from Wicked aside from "Defying Gravity" (and only because it was performed on the TV show, Glee). I didn't know what to expect.

Overall, I loved it. The characters were so fun. The voices amazing. The acting even more spectacular. The story and how it related to The Wizard of Oz was quite clever. The dialogue was funny and witty. I thoroughly enjoyed it. To be honest though, three hours in a theatre chair is a tad long. I enjoyed all three hours but I felt it. (Or was it my full bladder that I felt and was trying so hard to wait till intermission?).

I totally recommend it if you haven't seen it. Is it my favorite? I cannot say. I think Mary Poppins is still one of my all time favorites.

6 Months Mark

When I started this blog in January, I didn't think I'd keep up with it for this long. I mean, I have had previous blogs that ran for years... but was not sure about this one. So far, I'm currently averaging about 700 views a month, with of course majority of it from my friends.

For me, it's a great way to keep my friends updated without me having to flaunt it all over facebook. The difference being, people have to choose to come to my blog. If they want to know, it's their choice.
This has also been a documentation of memories. I simply click on my Trip to Oregon link, and I'll be reminded of all the cool things that I did and photos to show. It's been great. Now, if only I can get back into the rhythm of writing. Which I was much better at before. At least, I think.

So far, I've had readers from Canada, United States, Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, France, India, Denmark, Russia, and South Africa. That's pretty cool. (Or are these just my travelling friends?).

Nonetheless, happy 6 months!

We Want The Cup!

Everyone in Vancouver has got Cup fever. This city has gone insane. Today marks Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals against Boston Bruins. I went to work in a Canucks t-shirt. Most people at work were sporting their gear. Our store assistant manager talked at a mile a minute about getting everyone together to take a "Canucks" picture. We did just that. I couldn't wait for my shift to be over. It was semi- slow at work anyway ... everyone was probably busy getting ready for the game.

I kid you not. I heard there were people staking their spots in their favorite pub - or any pub for that matter - as early as noon time. They would go there for lunch. And stay. The game started at 5pm.

I continue my mentality of "If I don't care too much, then they will win." (No, not really). So, after work, I took the same amount of time to get out of work, and agreed to swing by Jen's place to pick her up before we headed off to a pub where our friends were saving us seats. We watched her dog, Barney, scarf down his dinner. Took our time at her place before we headed out.

We made our way to "Vancouver" Pizza. The place was full. We sat close enough to TVs for a perfect view of the game. I still continued my "If I don't care too much, they will win" mentality. I even chatted with Jen and Bran for a bit. We gobbled up more greasy food.

And with only 18.5 seconds left of the third period, Raffi Torres of the Vancouver Canucks scored the winning goal of the game! The place exploded. Everyone was screaming and hi-fiving and cheering.

GO CANUCKS GO!

Afterwards, Bran and I took the skytrain down to City Center. Not that I was expecting to see much other than more people screaming and yelling and cheering, but heck, I have the next day off... might as well soak in the moment. We tucked our hands into our sleeves and dodged anyone coming at us with their hands out for a hi-five. Sorry, let the game spirit live inside of us but the germs and bacteria can stay where they are ... and not on my hands. The police were saturated. Even ambulances parked all ready. But, there was no crazy rowdiness. Everyone was just pure happy and pretty orderly. No crazy drunks (I've seen drunker people at work). And no pushing and shoving.

After a quick stroll up and down Granville St., we called it a night.

THREE MORE TO GO...
